§ 介系詞 of 的用法：

　　〔表所有〕The roof of the house is red.

　　　　　　　（這房子的屋頂是紅色的。）

〔表同格關係〕He lives in the city of Taipei.

　　　　　　　（他住在臺北市。）

〔表部份關係〕He is one of the best students.

　　　　　　　（他是最好的學生之一。）

〔性質或狀態〕It is of no use.

　　　　　　　（這毫無用處。）

　〔表動作者〕It is very wise of him to do so.

　　　　　　　（他這樣做是很聰明的。）

　　〔表來源〕He was born of a noble family.

　　　　　　　（他出自高貴的家族。）

　　〔表材料〕This box is made of paper.

　　　　　　　（這個盒子是紙做的。）

　　〔表包含〕My family consists of six persons.

　　　　　　　（我的家庭由六個人組成。）

　　〔表原因〕He died of hunger.

　　　　　　　（他死於飢餓。）

　　〔表關聯〕What are you thinking of?

　　　　　　　（你在想什麼？）

　有介系詞 of 的片語和慣用語：

dream of（夢想）

required something of somebody（對某人要求某物）

instead of（而不、代替）

have knowledge of（知道...）

hear of（聽說過、知道）

　表示情緒上或生病、死亡的原因，of 常和表示此種意義之

　形容詞或動詞連用，如：

afraid（害怕的） ashamed（慚愧的；感到羞恥的）

fond（喜愛的） glad（高興的）

impatient（急躁的；不耐煩的） die（死）　

ill（生病的） proud（驕傲的；厭惡的）

sick（厭倦的）tired（厭煩的；厭倦的）

weary（厭煩的；厭倦的）

　You need not be ashamed of your poverty.

　（你不必以貧窮為恥。）

　She is fond of reading novels.

　（她喜歡讀小說。）

　表示「關於；涉及」，of 在此種用法中常與下列動詞連用：

　They accused him of theft.

　（他們控告他偷竊。）

　His parents approve of his match.

　（他的父母贊成他的婚配。）

　這類動詞舉例如下：

admit（容許；允許） infrom（通知）advise（通知）

judge（審判；判斷） apprise（通知；報告）

learn（聽說；聞知） assure（使確信） persuade（說服）

boast（自誇） repent（後悔） brag（自誇）

satisfy（使確信） complain（訴苦；抱怨）

suspect（懷疑） convict（宣告）talk（談話）

convince（相信） tell（告訴；講述）

despair（失望；絕望）think（認為；想念）

disapprove（不同意；不贊成） treat（論述）

dream（夢想） warn（警告）

※注意

　1. 上表中有些動詞可當及物動詞，後面直接接受詞，在

　　意義上與接 of 時完全不一樣。請比較下列句子：

　　I know of the candidate.（我聽說過這個候選人。）

　　I know the candidate.（我認識這個候選人。）

　　Do you speak English?（你說英語嗎？）

　　Of whom do you speak?（你在說誰啦？）

　2. hear, tell 之後接 news, report, story 等字時，不須接 of，

　　但是接 man, event, matter 等字時須接 of。

　　Have you heard the news?（你聽到這個消息嗎？）

　　Have you heard of such a man?（你聽說這樣的一個人嗎？）
